Custom Work

It all begins with an idea…

Many of the pieces that I have created on commission have focused on real places that are important to the folks that I make them for. They often feature particular buildings or animals, and usually have a function, whether it’s to adorn a particular place in their home, to signify an important time in their lives or even to hold the ashes of a loved one. This particular piece titled “Corinth to Colorado”, was created for a client who wanted to combine real places in both Colorado and here in Vermont. It depicts childhood pets, cabins where fond memories were made, and favorite pastimes, like hunting and maple sugaring. It is a lidded jar that can be used as a decorative piece or to hold something special.

“When my beloved husband of 33 years passed away suddenly in August, I was devastated. I knew his wish was to be cremated, but we never talked about an urn to hold his remains. My children and I looked at several places to find an urn that would not only honor him but also reflect the man he was and could not find one. We have known Cynthia for many years so that is why I asked her to make his urn. We told her about his favorite pastime, hunting, his love for the Old Man in the Mountain, and his faithful dog. From that, she created a beautiful urn that honors him and the things he loved.”

“The urn that Cynthia created for my mother was so special. Mom’s beloved pets and her favorite retreat, our camp at Averill, Vermont, are in 360 degree relief. The lake, Averill Mountain and the camp were all created from pictures I took the summer of Mom’s 90th birthday. Mom loved the urn, both for its memorable images and Cynthia’s lovely, detailed carving. It’s so comforting to know that Mom’s ashes are surrounded by so much loving artistry.”
